The second part of our interview techniques workshop will be more of an interactive session, aimed at practicing your techniques learnt at session 1.
Joining us will be Amy Pratsides, Group Resourcing Manager at Jaeger.
We will be looking at providing attendees with mock interview demonstrations, along with feedback and advice on how to improve for the real thing.

Following on from CV structure and job seeking, session 1 of Interview Techniques will be run by industry guest, Brooke Elster, Resourcing Advisor at Debenhams
Brooke will provide an overview of the do’s and don’ts during an interview, and some of the tips to help you get the best during any future meetings you may have
The session will also cover the types of things you can expect at an interview – testing, interviews, assessment centres, group exercises and ice breakers

LCF MA Digital Fashion Graduate 2011

We are pleased to announce that MA Digital Fashion graduate Alyssa Lichtenstein has been drawn at random, from over 200 entrants, as the winner of the LCF First Move Alumni Survey draw.

Along with a cheque for £100, Alyssa will also receive a graduate employability guidance session with one of the FBRS Grad team, and support with her ongoing job search.

The LCF First Move Alumni survey saw an excellent response, with former students from a range of fashion pathways providing key information about their journey from student to graduate and other key information such as their current employment situation.

The information gathered helps London College of Fashion understand the destinations of our alumni, along with the key areas of support still required in the field of graduate fashion employment.

The Fashion Business Resource Studio will be using the data to develop initiatives and strengthen the support provided to alumni when seeking to further careers within the competitive world of fashion.

A panel discussion on how the Internet and New Media continue to challenge and change the way we discover, consume and engage with fashion.

The event offers a chance to network and gain knowledge from creative thinkers and pioneers of the fashion industry. The panel includes Hywel Davies (Central Saint Martins), Melanie Crété (Dazed & Confused), Paula Goldstein (Purple Magazine), Geoff Watts (EDITD.com), Tamás Locher (LOOKK.com) and Michelle Sadlier (Shelbyshelly.com). The event takes place during London Fashion Week and there will be a welcoming and after drinks, making it a great opportunity for networking.

Soho’s Glamorous Flea Market to Celebrate Local Talent

Market stalls will line London’s Dean Street on 27 May for a new event to showcase the area’s creative industries.

Dean Street will be closed for Soho Flea Market which will exhibit and sell work from fashion design and glass sculpture to video games that have been developed locally. New music acts will perform on an outdoor stage to entertain visitors.

The flea market is run by not-for-profit music festival City Showcase and supported by a team of Dean Street businesses, in support of charity the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Nanette Rigg, director of City Showcase told Event: “We’re hoping for around 5,000 people to an event which should be very high-end. We’re thinking of it as the most glamorous flea market you’ll event attend.”

LCF FIRSTMOVE Programme Alumni is H&M Design Award Finalist

LCF FIRSTMOVE is delighted to announce that one of our incredibly talented FIRSTMOVE Programme alumni Stine Riis has been awarded a H&M Design Award for ‘Innovative Use of Textiles’ in her graduate collection and is now one of 6 finalists set to compete for the Global Design Award. Stine was mentored by Lucy Williams of Blink London in the run up to her graduation from LCF.

The H&M Design competition has involved 14 art and fashion colleges from around the world, H&M are been backing graduate design talent on an international scale. The next step sees graduates from around the globe compete for the Global Design Award prize, a cash prize, a show at Stockholm Fashion Week, and the chance to have their designs sold in H&M stores.

The final Six national winners have now been announced, the jury of experts, included brilliant blogger Suzie Lau aka Susie Bubble, the inspirational Christopher Kane and the fabulous Hilary Alexander, alongside fashion journalist, Kristopher Arden Houser and Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of Design at H&M with Margareta van den Bosch, Creative advisor to H&M.

The progress of the competition will be posted online for the general public to be involved and give their support.

“I’m very excited about the H&M Design Award,” said H&M Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson. “It’s our first ever prize for new young designers, and it’s been such an inspiring experience to meet these talented graduates, to hear the vision behind their collections and to see the final result. With the award I hope we encourage young designers around the world to believe in themselves and their creativity. I can’t wait to share the experience with everyone online.”

deutsche bank awards 2012

The Deutsche Bank Awards programme was launched in 1993 and offers practical and financial support to freelance artists, craftspeople, designers and performers. The Student Enterprise & Employability (SEE) department now co-ordinates the fashion and photography awards on behalf of Deutsche Bank.

The Fashion and Photography Awards offer the successful applicant £10,000 funding and one year of business mentoring support. If you’ve got a great business idea or project, the Deutsche Bank Awards can help you turn your dream into reality.

To support applicants in their submissions to the Deutsche Bank Awards 2012, dedicated business support workshops have been organised and will be delivered by seasoned business advisor Max Comfort. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend^. Book a place for the workshop here!

2012 Young Creative Chevrolet Competition

2012 Young Creative Chevrolet Competition – a pan-European arts competition nurturing talent and building business acumen for young designers and artists across Europe. With amazing cash prizes available and a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to work with the most influential professionals in the industry, this is a fantastic opportunity for all emerging artists in the early stages of their career. Next year Chevrolet will launch seven new cars and the theme for 2012 will be in keeping with this. The brief will revolve around Chevrolet’s Make it Happen campaign and participants are encouraged to interpret this message in imaginative and unexpected ways.

Entrants (both individuals and groups) are asked to respond to a creative brief across one of five disciplines including: fashion, photography, video and visual art and the more unique the project the better. Please find a document attached to this email outlining the 2012 briefs for photography, design, fashion and film.

There are two levels to the competition, first a national round in June and second a European round in July culminating in an awards show in October announcing the overall winners within each category.

All the national winners will be awarded with cash prizes of up to £1,000 and the first place winners will be invited to the European finals. There, they will be judged against other country finalists for a cash prize of up to €4,000 and a chance to work with top professionals in their disciplines. This is the ultimate prize for any budding artist looking to get a behind the scenes look at top companies in their industry.

Since its creation in 2007 the Young Creative Chevrolet competition continues to attract not only more students, schools and countries, but heightened media attention and jury members who are well-known leaders and innovators in their fields. This year’s 2011 awards ceremony was attended by English fashion designer, Wayne Hemmingway, one of Europe’s most respected graphic designers, Neville Brody and nominated Academy Award Film Director, Lucy Walker.
