British Library Spring Market

From 1 – 5 March, the  British Library is running a Spring Festival : a five day celebration of creativity with our collections at its heart, aimed at designers/ makers.

 This March, the British Library is hosting its first ever festival of the UK’s creative industries with a five day celebration ofcreativity, fashion and design. Aimed at designers and makers, the festival willshowcase creative talent and open up the Library’s vast and varied collections fromMarch 1-5.

The festival will feature everything from vintage knittingpatterns to Burmese tattoo designs, Victorian hair jewellery, Manga and graphicnovels, with a series of free and ticketed events, as well as highlighting the freebusiness advice and practical resources available at the library.

The event kicks off with a Spring Market featuring a numberof designers selling their collections on the Library’s St Pancras piazza; followedby a patterns and textures lecture, where British Library curators willshowcase pieces from its collection.

Other events include: a vintage knit workshop, recreatingpatterns from the Library’s archive; the Art of Illustration panel featuring QuentinBlake, Jamie Hewlett, and Posy Simmonds; a networking event; and an after-hourspop-up exhibition where the iconic walls of the Library will be covered indigital graffiti.

As part of it, they’re holding a Spring Market on our Piazza and running a competition to find 12 designers to take part.  We have around 5,000 people on site at the Library at any one time, so it’s a great opportunity to raise the profile of your work.

The winners of the competition will get:

-       A market stall during the Spring Market.

-       A workshop on how to dress a stall and gain the most out of the opportunity.

-       Their work featured on the British Library website.

-       Their work promoted via the Library’s marketing channels including Twitter, Facebook, blogs and our website.

-       Included in a British Library press release sent to major national and local publications.

 

The deadline for the competition is Sunday 29 January.
